Subject: Hertfordshire Puddingstone: The Story of an Intriguing Local Rock

Speaker: Gerald Lucy

Details: Hertfordshire puddingstone is one of the world’s most remarkable stones. Beautiful and very distinctive, giant boulders of it can be seen in Saffron Walden and the surrounding villages. The talk will explore the stone’s origin 56 million years ago, and its history, uses and folklore stretching back thousands of years.

The Speaker: Gerald Lucy is a geologist from Saffron Walden. He has made a special study of puddingstone and is the joint author of the recently published book Hertfordshire Puddingstone: Origin, History and Folklore, copies of which will be on sale after the talk. Gerald is also author of a book on the geology of Essex: Essex Rock.

Non-members are welcome, and there is no charge for admission.  The Library has disabled access.
