Thaxted Windmill Exhibition

An exhibition exploring Thaxted Windmill’s rich history is set to open to the public as part of Heritage Open Days and will feature many items never displayed before.

When:

The exhibition runs from Friday to Sunday, September 18 to 20, 2026

Where:

The exhibition will be set up in the Grade I-listed Thaxted Guildhall, built between 1390 and 1410. (The Guildhall has a long history, having served as a grammar school from the late 17th century until 1878.)

Times:

Opening hours are: Friday 10.30 am to 2pm, Saturday 1pm to 4pm & Sunday 10 am to 2 pm.

Further Information:

Original documents and photographs will feature, detailing the stories of the mill’s owners, builders, and workers. Organised by the Thaxted Windmill Trust CIO and Thaxted Guildhall Committee. Windmill trustees and the Thaxted archivist, along with volunteers, will be there on the day to discuss the displayed archives and share updates on ongoing repair and conservation projects. Accessibility:

The exhibition will be held on the top floor of the Guildhall which does not have wheelchair access or disabled parking on site.
