Rotary Club Celebrates 100th Birthday

Saffron Walden Rotary recently marked its centennial with a dinner at Saffron Walden Golf Club. A congratulatory letter from the President of Rotary worldwide was read out and a framed Centennial Certificate presented to Saffron Walden President Andrew Burton.

This ‘tin tabernacle’ in Lyonshall, Herefordshire, was built in 1860 using corrugated iron.

They served fast-growing industrial towns and cities in England of which only 86 pre-fabricated churches still survive.

They weren’t intended for permanent use, and most were replaced.

4 well-spent £ in a secondhand bookshop. Published in 1957, it remains fresh as a daisy, the clearest, most readable explanation of boots-and-maps research on English fields, villages, towns and parks that I know. I have learned much - and (1957 again) it is beautifully written.
