Introduction

Like many Family History Societies, the North West Essex (Saffron Walden) Branch of the Essex Society for Family History (ESFH) transcribed old records so that the data is available for researchers and family historians. Before closure in September 2021, their last 10 year project was the transcription of the Baptism Register of St Mary’s Saffron Walden.

Version 9 (final)

Version 9: Contains over 19,200 transcribed records of Baptisms for the period 21 November 1558 to March 1814. These records were taken from images of the Original Parish Registers held at the Essex Record Office (ERO) as well as the Victorian transcripts held in the church archives.

A more comprehensive database is available from the Essex Society for Family History. This now includes the baptism data for 1558 to 1630. Once you have established the name and year of baptism for the person you are seeking you can join the Society and search the entries which currently exceed 1.76 million Essex Records. An electronic membership is only £10 per person per annum. To join click here: ESFH membership.
