Richard was winner of the British Association for Local History’s Medieval and Early Modern Essay Prize 2018: The Cutlers of Thaxted 1350-1420. His paper looks at the thriving medieval cutlery industry in the Essex market town of Thaxted, with the key piece of evidence being a 1393 survey which was cross-referenced with the returns from the 1381 poll tax.
