Description:
Edward Bawden’s (1903-1989) artistic career spanned more than sixty years. For the last 19 years of his life, he lived in Saffron Walden. This well-illustrated volume examines Bawden’s career within the context of his social and artistic friendships. A prolific artist, Bawden illustrated books and designed advertisements, transport posters, murals on ships, churches, boardrooms and colleges, editioned prints and wallpapers and was also a proficient watercolourist. The new edition is greatly enhanced by the inclusion of material from Bawden’s personal scrapbooks, allowing the reader insight into Bawden’s working methods and final pieces.
The Fry Gallery, Saffron Walden, holds a set of prints as part of their extensive Bawden collection. They are regularly exhibited and have been used in books about Bawden and his work.
The Author:
Malcolm Yorke has written biographies of Eric Gill, Keith Vaughan, Matthew Smith and Edward Bawden. He also paints, sculpts and writes children’s books.
