Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Saffron Walden Historical Society, one of the oldest voluntary organisations in the town, founded in 1933 and still going strong today. You can read a complete History of the Society here.

This site was set up in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Society, to tell you about the current and past programme of lectures, the Journal (twice a year) and the history books published by the Society.

A summary of the current programme is in the right-hand column of this page. You may also be interested in the history of the Society,

The Journal is published each year in Spring and Autumn. Information on the current issue can be found on the right-hand column of this page, and in the Journal section.

Past issues of the Journal can be accessed in the Gibson Library, Saffron Walden – an index of titles of articles can be found on this website, together with a selection of articles.

The Society has published a number of local history books under the imprint SWHS Publications.

Please note that we are unable to carry out family or local history research for enquirers, but suggest a number of contacts where further information may be found.
