DESCRIPTION:Note: Above image is  © Pam Kwai\nIntroduction\nRoyston Cave remains an enigma. No records of its age or purpose exist. Its origin has baffled visitors and historians alike for centuries. The Cave has been welcoming visitors since its discovery in 1742. With entry only available upon request and via a rope, it wasn’t until the current visitor entrance was dug in 1790 that formal, paid visits were introduced\nSpeaker\nKeith Fitzpatrick-Matthews\nKeith works for North Hertfordshire District Council’s Museums Service, where he is the Archaeology Officer. Much of his time is spent bringing The Baldock Project to publication. This was a major series of excavations that took place on the Iron Age and Romano-British ‘small town’ of Baldock (Herts, UK) between 1978 and 1994.\nDate & Time of Meeting\nWednesday  25th February 2026\n7.45 pm\nCost:\nFree to Members. Visitors £2.00\nFurther Information\nIn 1974, Royston Town Council bought Royston Cave outright. Royston History Society continued to manage it on the Council’s behalf and modern, guided tours were introduced. In 2018, management of Royston Cave reverted to Royston Town Council.\n
